The
award certificate

The Interior
Ministry of Taiwan has selected SGI-Taiwan as an
"excellent community organization" for the 10th
consecutive year for its active participation in humanitarian
relief efforts and activities that promote international
exchange. Every year, community and cultural organizations are
chosen and commended on the basis of their contributions to
society and their community activities. More than 4,600
organizations in Taiwan were assessed for this year's
selection, and the 35 that scored the highest were named
excellent community organizations. SGI-Taiwan was the only
organization to receive this honor for a 10th consecutive
year. It was chosen for its sponsorship of a variety of
activities such as seminars, culture festivals, photo
exhibitions and youth friendship exchanges between Taiwan and
China.
An award ceremony was held on July 17 at the Jiantan Overseas
Youth Activity Center in Taipei. SGI-Taiwan's National Flower
Chorus performed at the event, and other SGI-Taiwan members
helped behind the scenes. SGI-Taiwan General Director Lin Chao
received the award certificate from Vice Interior Minister Hsu
Ying-shen.
Meanwhile SGI-Taiwan's fife-and-drum corps performed at the
presidential palace as part of a culture event hosted by the
President's Office and the Interior Ministry on August 4. The
event aims to promote awareness of and support for social and
welfare organizations for the disabled.
