SGI Exhibitions
From October 12 to 20, SGI-Italy and the city of Florence cosponsored a peace and human rights art exhibition, "Children's Drawings for Human Rights and Peace--Let's Hold Hands, Make a Circle and Change the World," at the Villa Vogel Gallery in Florence. The exhibition consisted of 850 drawings and 103 poems created by students from 57 elementary and junior high schools in Florence and nearby cities. The young people's poems and drawings expressing their feelings and thoughts on peace and the need to respect the dignity of life were created following a viewing of SGI-Italy's "City of Human Rights" exhibit in November 2001, at a time when the tragic events of September 11, 2001, were still vivid in their minds.

In Canada, meanwhile, "Disappearing Landscapes," an art exhibit highlighting environmental degradation endangering the Headwaters area, which includes Caledon and Toronto, opened at the SGI-Canada Caledon Centre for Culture and Education on October 4. More than 60 Ontario artists participated in the exhibition, which is part of the annual Headwaters Festival celebrating the arts and the natural beauty of the Headwaters area. Caledon Mayor Carol L.
