Women's Meeting in Bolivia

SGI-Bolivia held a national women's meeting at the SGI-Bolivia Culture Center in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, on April 18. Roxana Gentile Rojas of the Santa Cruz Province Association of Women's Federations delivered the keynote speech, while Bolivia National Congress member Alicia Perrogon recited an original poem expressing her respect for the dedicated humanitarian efforts of the SGI women.

The Association, with a membership of some 100,000 Santa Cruz women, was established in 1992 to promote public services for local communities; and since 1993 it has cooperated with SGI-Bolivia on numerous occasions to promote women's empowerment. In 1997, the Association supported lectures hosted by SGI-Bolivia throughout the country on the theme of children's and human rights, and following a devastating forest fire near Ascensión de Guarayos in August 1999, the Association collaborated with SGI-Bolivia in relief efforts.
