In July, SGI-Thailand sponsored "New Trends for the New Century," an exhibition about the empowerment of women, at the Siam Discovery Center in Bangkok. The exhibition was divided into five themes: Hope, Aspiration, Positive Thinking, Practice and Youthfulness. Display panels introduced the lives and philosophies of leading figures such as Florence Nightingale, Marie Curie, Rosa Parks and Deng Yingchao. A representative of the Religious Affairs Department of the Thai Ministry of Culture commented that the exhibition was imbued with a real message of hope for the young women who shoulder Thailand's future.
In Panama, on July 26, SGI-Panama launched its exhibition "In the Century of Women: A Humanistic Existence" and participated in an interfaith dialogue in commemoration of the ninth anniversary of the Women's Institute of the University of Panama. The university's rector and director commended SGI-Panama's contributions toward the advancement of women and gender issues. On July 27, representatives from numerous religious traditions attended the Ecumenical
Committee--an interfaith gathering--at the SGI-Panama Culture Center, where a forum introduced the SGI movement, Buddhist principles and common religious values.
