Tribute to Gandhi

SGI-Australia (SGIA) representatives spoke at two interfaith prayer meetings organized by Bhavan Australia, an international institute promoting Indian culture, to mark the 57th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's death.

SGIA General Director Hans Van Der Bent stressed the need to hold onto Gandhi's values in today's world at the meeting on January 29 in Sydney's Hyde Park. A second prayer meeting was held on January 30 in Parramatta. Participants included Madhusudan Ganapathi, consul general of India, Benjamin Chow, chairman of the Council of Multicultural Australia, and several local mayors and members of parliament.

Toshi Imaya of SGIA commented that the event served to underline the values held in common by all faiths, and said that the wish to develop further initiatives together was expressed by all who took part.
