In October,
southeast Mexico experienced torrential rain causing the
worst floods in 50 years. SGI-Mexico youth division members
participated in relief activities in Tabasco State, an area
which was severely devastated by the floods, distributing
food, drinks and blankets to 260 households. Antonio Monal,
a representative of the Mexican Red Cross responsible for
Tabasco State, remarked, "I really appreciate the voluntary
activities of these young people. SGI members are our hope."

In Bolivia, torrential rains over several months led to the
most devastating floods to hit the country in 25 years,
resulting in numerous landslides, impassable roads and
flooding of vast areas of agricultural
land. Together with the government, SGI-Bolivia initiated
relief activities in the hard-hit Santa Cruz Province in the
eastern part of the country. On February 7, SGI-Bolivia
representatives visited the province’s social services
department to donate food, clothes and blankets collected by
local SGI members.
