SGI-Panama signed a "Cultural Convention" with the Panamanian Ministry of Culture in February of this year. The first event to be held under the new convention was a showing of the "World Boys and Girls Art Exhibition" at the SGI-Panama Culture Center.

Supported by UNESCO, UNICEF, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education and Culture and numerous other government bodies, the event was held from August 17 to September 16, and 300 paintings from 161 countries and regions were presented along with 56 works from Panama.

Ms. Ruby Moscoso de Young, the sister of Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso, attended the opening ceremony on the president's behalf, and stated that the exhibit will help develop children's appreciation for solidarity, friendship and nature and help them respect the diversity of cultures in their society. Vice President Arturo Vallarino expressed his support for the SGI, and its promotion of cultural activities that contribute to the respective societies of each local SGI organization.

Prior to its exhibition in Panama, the "World Boys and Girls Art Exhibition" was shown in Venezuela, where a total of 45,000 people attended three separate showings between May and July.
