SGI News: Global activities for peace, education and culture

Choose Hope

The English edition of Choose Hope, a dialogue between SGI President Daisaku Ikeda and David Krieger focusing on the authors' vision for the creation of a peaceful world, has recently been published by Middleway Press. David Krieger is the founder and president of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation which has initiated many important, innovative projects for building peace, strengthening international law and abolishing nuclear weapons.

The two authors combine Western and Eastern perspectives to encourage people to transcend national loyalties and embrace a global vision. Some of the major themes running through their dialogues are that we must not remain indifferent when our common future is at stake; that we must not passively wait for political and governmental leaders to solve humanity's crucial problems; and that we must empower ourselves and lead our leaders to a safer and saner future.

The authors share inspiring examples of individuals working to establish peace and to end the nuclear threat. They especially encourage young people to use their natural idealism to become engaged in social action and to play a role in shaping the world they will inherit. Dr. Krieger and Mr. Ikeda urge their readers to consciously choose hope, and to act upon it.

Numerous peace leaders have praised the book, among them, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Mairead Corrigan Maguire, who commented: "This book gives us all hope because it reminds us that in addition to the gift of life, we are also given the gift of choice. We can, as Daisaku Ikeda and David Krieger remind us in this inspirational book, choose hope."
