The "Environment and Art Exhibition: Toward a Beautiful Environment," organized by the Soka Gakkai Lanka Buddhist Association (SGI-Sri Lanka), was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo from July 6 to 12. The exhibition featured children's art submitted from Sri Lanka as well as an environment exhibit originally created by the Singapore Soka Association (SSA).

During the exhibition, SGI-Sri Lanka also screened A Quiet Revolution, an award-winning documentary on environmental issues produced by the Earth Council in partnership with UNEP and UNDP and sponsored by the SGI. The exhibition drew approximately 20,000 visitors.

In a congratulatory message, Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga expressed appreciation to SGI-Sri Lanka and stated that "children are good ambassadors who can disseminate messages to the four corners of the island, for their hearts are filled with beauty and awe that transcend national or ethnic boundaries."
