SGI News: Global activities for peace, education and culture

Youth Forum and Seminars in Argentina

The youth forum

SGI-Argentina sponsored the seventh Youth Peace Forum at the SGI-Argentina Peace Hall in Buenos Aires on October 3 and 4. Some 230 students from 30 local junior and senior high schools participated in the event, along with Daniel Arroyo, Argentina's vice minister of social development. The forum was modeled after Argentina's national assembly, with participants representing different states and enthusiastically discussing the provision of education for all and the role of education in overcoming poverty in a simulated assembly.

Participants said that the forum provided them an opportunity to awaken to a sense of purpose and that they welcomed the chance to discuss social issues with people their own age. Mr. Arroyo stated that he was glad the model assembly had enabled him to hear the opinions of young people.

SGI-Argentina also sponsored women's seminars at 45 venues in Buenos Aires and nearby towns between September 28 and October 5. Some 5,800 people attended forums with themes such as "Improved Relations Between Mother and Child" and "The Inner Beauty of Human Beings." Outlining SGI's philosophy, women's leader Zulema Minagawa encouraged all participants to strive to infuse their environment with hope, harmony and wisdom.
