Dr. Majid Tehranian, director of the Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research, was one of the speakers at a conference on "2003 Middle East and Central Asia Politics, Economics and Society" at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City from October 15-18. The multidisciplinary conference brought together academicians, researchers, analysts and policy makers for a program that included 33 panel discussions centered on contemporary issues facing the Middle East and Central Asia.
Dr. Tehranian spoke on "From Silk to Silicon: Communication and Globalization" during the plenary session on October 16, emphasizing the need for dialogue that respects cultural diversity. He also gave a keynote lecture on "Pax Americana in the Persian Gulf" on October 17 that examined U.S. policy in the region, outlined fundamental measures for establishing peace and resolving conflicts in the Persian Gulf, and introduced the Toda Institute's sponsorship of the International Commission for Security and Cooperation in West Asia (SACWA).
