SGI News: Global activities for peace, education and culture

Children's Art in Slovenia

On January 5, the SGI's "World Boys and Girls Art Exhibition" opened at Cankarjev dom, the largest community and cultural center in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Sponsored by the SGI and supported by the UNICEF Slovenia Committee and Ljubljana city, the exhibition displayed 147 paintings and drawings submitted by children from 100 countries and territories. Some 100 guests and local residents attended the opening, and TV and radio stations and a national newspaper covered the event. The exhibit closed on February 8, Slovenia's National Day of Culture.

In addition to sponsoring the exhibit, SGI-Slovenia held two workshops for children, one designed to stimulate creativity in children under 12 years of age, and the other aimed at the sound psychological development of those over the age of 12. Proceeds from the event were donated to UNICEF and UNESCO for projects in Namibia.
