SGI News: Global activities for peace, education and culture

"Seeds of Change" in Canada and Austria

SGI-Canada joined with the local UN Association of Canada (UNAC) branch, the University of Calgary International Center and its Students Union to bring the "Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential" exhibition to the University of Calgary on October 20.

From UN Day, October 22, the exhibition transferred to Devonian Gardens, one of the largest botanical parks in North America, where it was held until October 30. The exhibition proved highly popular, and the video A Quiet Revolution was described as "a phenomenal resource" by a member of the board of the Alberta Association for Multicultural Education. Both the video and small-scale exhibition panels are available to schools and organizations throughout Canada through the NGO Classroom Connections which has made the resources part of its "Cultivating Peace, Taking Action" educational kit.

On November 8, the "Seeds of Change" exhibition was installed in a junior high school in Vienna, Austria, where A Quiet Revolution was also shown. Teachers found ways to incorporate the message of the exhibition and film into their classes, and the school also requested SGI-Austria youth members' support in showing the exhibition at its Open Day.
