SGI-Canada Youth Festivals

In April and May, SGI-Canada sponsored local youth music events throughout the country. On May 1 in Toronto, some 1,700 gathered for a youth culture festival at the John Bassett Theatre. Eight local organizations joined in the celebrations and presented ballet and music performances. Marc Kielburger, executive director of Free the Children, an international network of children helping children, was guest speaker. On April 8, "Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential," an exhibit portraying global ecological threats and highlighting the Earth Charter as a "map" pointing the way toward sustainable living, was shown in Montreal, together with a lecture on environmental issues. A peace concert was also held in Ottawa on April 22.
