On March 1, 2006, Paula Miksic of SGI-USA joined women from Christian, Hindu and Jewish traditions in a panel presentation on "Women in Leadership: Religion, Vocation, and Identity" at the Church Center at the United Nations, New York, U.S.A. This was part of the lecture series "Religion and Global Citizenship," which examines global interconnectedness in light of our religious beliefs, looking at questions such as how our understanding of the sacred shapes our understanding of our fellow human beings, and the ways our religious practices call us to act for justice and peace. The series is part of the 50th session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the UN headquarters. Dr. Betty Reardon, founding director of the Peace Education Center at Teachers College, Columbia University, served as moderator of the day's events, which were hosted by Temple of Understanding. Some 70 individuals including government officials and UN and NGO representatives attended.
