Seeds of Change in Dubai

The "Seeds of Change" exhibition originally created for the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2002 was shown for the first time in Arabic at the conference center of Dubai Knowledge Village from November 18 to 26, cosponsored by Dubai Humanitarian City, Dubai Aid City, Dubai Knowledge Village and SGI-Dubai. International Committee of Artists for Peace (ICAP) representative, flutist Nestor Torres, performed at the opening, which was attended by UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Ms. Rima Salah as well as local dignitaries. The exhibition was subsequently shown at Dubai Women's College and at Zayed University.

Seminars combining presentations on environmental themes with musical performances were held every evening during the showing of the exhibition at Dubai Knowledge Village. Speakers included Rashid Karkain, head of the environmental planning department of Dubai Municipality, on "The Rising Importance of Environmental Planning in Dubai's Mega Urban Development," Dr. Gisela Loehlein of the Institute of the Built Environment, the British University in Dubai, on "Global Versus Local Sustainability" including innovative, green building, and Shawqi Hamad Sajwani, Group Director, Organizational Excellence, Dubai Holdings, on "Corporate Sustainability Management."
