Acting for Peace in Taiwan

On April 2, SGI student members in Taiwan held an "Action for Peace Drama Festival." To prepare, students from 80 universities and their friends explored the concept of peace, researching issues such as racism, human rights, poverty, patriotism and disarmament. Students from each university then wrote, rehearsed and presented plays in the festival that was staged in seven districts throughout Taiwan.

The festival was held in commemoration of the anniversary of the death of the Soka Gakkai's second president, Josei Toda. In 1957 Toda called on the organization's youth to work to rid the world of nuclear weapons; an occasion that is regarded as the starting point of the SGI's peace movement.
