On December 19, 2006, Pera Wells, secretary-general of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) met with Soka Gakkai President Minoru Harada at the Soka Gakkai headquarters in Tokyo.

Created in 1946, WFUNA is an international people's movement in support of the United Nations. Ms. Wells acknowledged SGI President Ikeda's August 2006 proposal to the UN, titled, "Fulfilling the Mission: Empowering the UN to Live Up to the World's Expectations," which she had requested be distributed to the participants at WFUNA's 38th Plenary Assembly last November in Buenos Aires. She said she also hoped to further strengthen cooperation with the SGI, which is an international associate of the federation, saying that she was impressed with the SGI's emphasis on youth. In his proposal, Mr. Ikeda encourages world citizens to involve themselves proactively with the UN and calls on the world body to establish frameworks that engage young people in their deliberations. The proposal can be found here.
