On January 27 and 28, seventy SGI-New Zealand youth representatives participated in a Victory Over Violence Aotearoa (VOV Aotearoa) National Facilitators Training Course in Raglan, New Zealand.
VOV Aotearoa is a counterpart to an SGI-USA youth-driven initiative to help young people identify and counteract the root causes of violence in their lives and their communities. Its broader purpose is to create sustainable nonviolent cultures within schools and the wider community.
In 2007, the SGI-New Zealand youth will take VOV Aotearoa to a total of eight schools in cities around New Zealand.
During the course the youth members explored issues including passive violence, received training in workshop facilitation skills, and role-played the VOV exercises they will use in the classroom.
