Charity Cultural Extravaganza in Malaysia
Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) Terengganu Branch and the Terengganu State Department of Culture, Arts and Heritage cosponsored a charity show, Malam Budidaya 2007, on June 1--2. The event, showcasing ethnic dances highlighting the rich cultural diversity of Malaysian society, also commemorated Visit Malaysia Year 2007 and Malaysia's 50th Independence Day.
More than 450 people attended the event, which raised MYR25,000 (approx. US$7,000) from ticket sales. The funds were distributed among 10 charitable organizations, an orphanage and schools in Terengganu.
Show highlights included a traditional Malay singing form called Dikir Barat, performed by SGM Kelantan members, heart-stopping gymnastics feats and a lively children's dance. All the performers were SGM volunteers from Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang.
