Soka Gakkai youth in Hiroshima sponsored a lecture by Steven L. Leeper, chairperson of the board of directors of the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, about Japan's unique role in establishing lasting peace. The lecture, held at the Soka Gakkai Hiroshima Ikeda Peace Hall on April 10, was the 124th in a series titled "Lectures on Hiroshima."

Mr. Leeper remarked that we now stand at a crossroads regarding nuclear abolition and stressed the need to create a culture of peace and nonviolence as advocated by Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. He pointed out that Japan, with its unique experience of suffering atomic bombing, has the mission of being the leader in creating a culture of peace by appealing to the world for nuclear abolition and an end to war. Emphasizing the need for nations to cooperate to resolve the mounting challenges facing humanity such as poverty and climate change, Mr. Leeper said that we have no choice but to work together and expressed his expectation that the SGI will play a leading role in global efforts for peace.
