On May 12, SGI UN Representative Hiro Sakurai, in his capacity as bureau member and immediate past president of the Committee of Religious NGOs (CRNGO) at the UN, chaired a roundtable discussion on "Engaging People in Sustainability: the Role of Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue" at the Church Center for the UN in New York. A related event of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), the meeting was cosponsored by the CRNGO and the CSD Education Caucus and attended by 40 representatives of UN agencies, NGOs and faith organizations from around the world.

The discussion highlighted that people are hungry for an understanding of sustainability, and that religious organizations can play a vital role in making information locally and culturally relevant as well as accessible, as long as they come out of their "religious castles" and stand with the people.
