On September 21, Soka Gakkai members who work as educators gathered for their 31st "National Forum on Practical Applications of Humanistic Education" at the Kudan Kaikan in Tokyo. Some 1,100 educators attended and reported on their challenges and initiatives to put humanistic education into practice in the classroom.
In a message, SGI President Ikeda stressed that the greatest focus should be placed on bringing brilliance into the lives of youth and children, and that this should be the foundation of all educational endeavors.
The meeting commemorated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the first Soka Gakkai Educational Counseling Center (SGECC) in 1968. Preschool teacher Yuko Muraki spoke about her volunteer counseling experience of helping a junior high school girl who visited a local SGECC overcome her truancy by assisting her in improving her relationship with her family.
Soka Gakkai Education Department Chief Hajime Miyamoto called on those attending to challenge their own personal growth to better serve the well-being of their students.
