On June 6, municipal authorities and members of SGI-Mexico commemorated World Environment Day (June 5) by gathering at the Manuel J. Clouthier Park in San Miguel de Allende and planting an ahuehuete tree (Montezuma Cypress)--native to Mexico and famous for living up to 400 years and growing to heights of 30 to 40 meters.

Donald Patherson, Director of Environment and Ecology of San Miguel de Allende, welcomed participants on behalf of the mayor and announced that, including the planting of the ahuehuete tree, the local administration has accomplished the goal of planting 19,000 trees in the city in one year.

Romualdo Hernández, Director of the Municipal Commission of Sports and Youth Care, thanked SGI-Mexico on behalf of the city for planting such a historic tree.

Children who attended the tree planting tied their wishes to the branches of the tree to make a commitment to caring for it.
