The city of San Carlos, in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, honored both SGI-Bolivia and SGI President Ikeda for their contributions to civil society at an award ceremony held in the city's Central Park on February 28.
A monument with a plaque commending SGI-Bolivia for its contributions to peace, culture and education was unveiled by San Carlos Mayor Justa Veliz and SGI-Bolivia General Director Katsuo Takeno at the city's Central Park. SGI-Bolivia youth members in San Carlos have been engaged in various activities that promote environmental awareness, such as park clean-up efforts and tree plantings in the city. The award presented to SGI-Bolivia recognizes these contributions and the leadership provided by Mr. Ikeda.
On the same day, in nearby Santa Rosa del Sara, the City Board of Education commended Mr. Ikeda for his contributions to education during SGI-Bolivia's Youth Education Seminar held in Santa Rosa del Sara. City School Board Director David Cotrina commented that the seminar, based on Mr. Ikeda's book Discussions on Youth, provides the community's young people with an opportunity to learn about and discuss the humanitarian and value-creating principles Mr. Ikeda expounds.
