SGI-Mexico and the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) in Azcapotzalco, Mexico, have been cosponsoring a series of seminars titled Ikeda Seminar for Sustainable Peace and Human Rights.
The ongoing series, first initiated in 2008, provides students with an opportunity to study and discuss SGI President Daisaku Ikeda's Peace Proposals and philosophy, and examine ways to apply his thinking to issues such as peace and human rights.
UAM Rector Dr. Enrique Fernández Fassnacht attended on July 21, the concluding day of the seminar. He expressed his appreciation for the continuity of the seminar series and shared his view that the SGI and Mr. Ikeda's activities challenge the entrenched idea that individuals are powerless to effect positive change in society. He also stated his strong belief in Mr. Ikeda's message that a change in one individual can lead to a change in the world.
The SGI exhibition "From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit" was also shown at UAM from September 20 to October 8.
Ambassador Gioconda Ubeda from the Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL) remarked that the youth of today have a historic opportunity to promote nuclear disarmament.
