Taiwan Soka Association (TSA) was one of the cosponsors of the "Concern for the Growth of the Next Generation Cross-Straits Forum" that was held from June 11–13 in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China.
Over 230 people from 130 schools from regions across the Straits of Taiwan, including Hong Kong, Taiwan and China, participated, and presentations were given on more than 20 research papers. Several TSA members presented the findings of their research projects at the conference.
Hsieh Hsiu-sheng, the chairperson of TSA's Culture and Education Conference who led a 12-strong delegation from TSA, spoke at the opening of the forum. "Children are the treasures of a family, a country and all of humanity," she stated. "We should accord them the respect due to an 'emissary of the future' and nurture them, allowing them to grow into contributing members of society."
Other TSA representatives spoke on themes including the application of the educational philosophy of the Soka Gakkai's first president, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, and TSA's education counseling centers and the summer camps it organizes in remote districts and offshore islands.
