The Min-On Concert Association in Tokyo, Japan, sponsored the Japan tour of the Argentine tango group the Fabio Hager Sextet from January 22 to March 25. The "Dramatic Tango" tour, which began in Ehime Prefecture, traveled to 38 cities throughout Japan. Min-On has sponsored over 2,400 Argentine tango performances in Japan over the last 40 years.
The SGI-USA New York Culture Center celebrated the 10th anniversary of the International Committee of Artists for Peace (ICAP), a community outreach movement initiated by SGI-USA members who are part of SGI-USA's New York Culture Department, on January 9. Grammy award-winning singer Art Garfunkel performed at the celebration.
SGI-UK members took part in a Holocaust Memorial Day event titled "Space for Peace" at Winchester Cathedral on January 26. A total of seven choirs, amounting to 200 people, performed. Participants included SGI-UK members and representatives from the Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Hindu faiths.
The SGI UN Liaison Office in Geneva, Switzerland, together with SGI-Switzerland members attended an event celebrating World Interfaith Harmony Week at the Ecumenical Centre chapel in Geneva on February 6. The event, organized by the Lutheran World Federation, was attended by representatives from the World Council of Churches, World Communion of Reformed Churches and other faiths.
The Soka Gakkai's environmental exhibition "The Earth and I" was shown in Hokkaido, Japan, on January 20. Inspired by SGI President Ikeda's 2002 environmental proposal, it aims to increase awareness of the plight of endangered species and encourages people to think actively about the future of energy production and sustainable development.
Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) members in Selangor took part in a Green Campaign community cleanup event organized by Klang Municipal Council (MPK) on December 3. The event, attended by some 200 people, was held at Klang Art Square. Some 20 SGM volunteers picked up garbage from the streets, swept sidewalks and cleaned out debris from drains.
